Airlines set new all-time high for passenger count
US airlines exceeded their previous record for first-half passenger count, carrying 414.4 million passengers in the first six months of 2017.
That’s up from the previous record of 403 million set in 2016. During the H1 2017 period, airlines served 360.9 million domestic and 53.5 million international passengers, according to US Department of Transportation data.
Strong growth is being seen in international passenger travel, which is outpacing growth in international capacity, offsetting a domestic capacity growth rate that only slightly exceeded passenger travel growth. Load factor rose 0.2 percentage points to 82.9 in H1 2017.
