LH to balance operations between Domodedovo and Vnukovo
Lufthansa is the biggest foreign carrier operating in Russia, and it is planning to reflect this status by transferring its Dusseldorf and Hamburg flights to Moscow Vnukovo from Domodedovo from June 3, according to a statement issued by Vnukovo. This runs contrary to an earlier statement from the airline that Dusseldorf and Hamburg flights would remain at Domodedovo.
LH will fly 12 flights a week from Berlin to Vnukovo from this date. In total it will operate seven daily frequencies from Germany to each of the two Moscow airports, although all Munich and some Frankfurt flights are likely to stay in Domodedovo.
Star Alliance members appear to be consolidating at Vnukovo, and Lufthansa’s latest decision may be designed to assist UTair, Russia’s third biggest carrier, to become a future member of the alliance.
