Who won 2013 pax battle: CPH or OSL?

Airports release passenger numbers for full year

Both Copenhagen and Oslo airports have released their passenger figures for 2013, and a previously observed trend continues: CPH stays marginally in the lead, but OSL appears to be catching up.

Copenhagen Airport reached a record of exactly 24,067,030 passengers in 2013, an increase of 3.1%, making it a third consecutive year of passenger records. In December, passenger numbers rose by as much as 5.3%.

“Our growth rate for the year was higher than at most of our competitors among the other European hub airports,” Thomas Woldbye, CEO of Copenhagen Airports A/S, said. “This shows that our strategy of strengthening the hub is effective.”

International and intercontinental routes were the growth drivers, with the number of international passengers increasing by 3.6%. The number of domestic passengers represented a drop of 1.7%.

At Oslo Airport, just under 23 million passengers were seen in 2013, 4% more than the previous year and is the highest number of people ever to travel through the airport.

Growth was greatest in international traffic, which saw an increase of 5.7%. The increase in scheduled services to other countries was particularly large, at 7.1%, while charter traffic decreased 4.4%. Domestic traffic saw an increase of 2%.

“Norway’s generally healthy economic situation combined with attractive flight services from airlines and the general wanderlust of Norwegians have made this a banner year,” Oslo Airport’s managing director Nic Nilsen said.

As previously reported, Stockholm Arlanda Airport saw 20.7 million passengers in 2013.
