“Worst event in Norway’s museum history”

Around 400 Viking artefacts stolen in museum break-in
It is more than likely that “by far the most terrible event in the 200 years of Norwegian museum history” occurred the weekend before last, it has been revealed.
Around 400 Viking objects were stolen from the University Museum of Bergen at some point during the weekend of August 11-13.
Henrik von Achen, the museum’s director described the loss as “immeasurable”, telling the news agency AFP: “If the stolen objects are not returned, this is by far the most terrible event in the 200 years of Norwegian museum history.”
The artefacts are mostly small metal objects such as jewellery and “do not have monetary value attached to them”. The value of the metal itself is “quite small”, von Achen said, but the loss is in their cultural history value.
The thieves used scaffolding to enter the seventh floor of the museum, where the objects had been temporarily placed before a move to a secure location.
