Low-cost upstart’s fleet to grow to 24 aircraft in 2018

Iceland’s fast-growing upstart low-cost carrier WOW air saw passenger numbers grow by 69% in 2017, to reach 2.8 million, TTG Digital reveals.

The increase was driven by an 80% increase in available seat kilometres over the period with the budget airline’s load factor of 88% remaining constant over the last two years.

The founder and chief executive of WOW, which is based at Keflavik and currently flies to 34 destinations, is confident the airline will see the growth rate continue into 2018 as the fleet grows to 24 aircraft.

Increasing investments
“For WOW air, 2017 was marked by rapid growth and investments throughout our company and fleet,” Skuli Mogensen said.

“We have never been better equipped to continue our future growth and we expect to transfer 3.7 million passengers in the year 2018.”

He continued: “I look forward to all the exciting developments that are on the horizon, including upcoming new destinations and aircraft, which will ultimately make the WOW journey even more pleasurable for our passengers.”
